The latest volume in Robert Crais' Elvis Cole series, Chasing Darkness, has recently been released. Any fan of the modern detective genre would be well acquainted with Elvis and his partner Joe Pike and would also be well aware that this is a consistently strong series. From The Monkey's Raincoat which was nominated for an Edgar Award to L.A. Requiem, which should have won the Edgar and on, the series has developed from the earlier books that featured a glint in the eye humorous private investigator schtick to the later darker, more introspective books that demanded serious thought.
