New Release : Holy Moly by Ben Rehder

The latest book in Ben Rehder’s Blanco County series has recently been released. The book in question is Holy Moly and is the 6th book in the series. Each book is based in the Texas county of Blanco and features two main characters, John Marlin, a laid-back game warden and Herbert Mackey the sheriff.

Most notable about these books is the off-beat humor and unusual situations that the characters, who themselves are sometime a little off kilter, find themselves. The series is consistently entertaining and the hunting theme makes for the kinds of unusual circumstances that just scream comedy.

The first book in the series, Buck Fever, was nominated for an Edgar Award for Best First Novel.

The Blanco County series

Buck Fever (2002) - Where Ben Rehder excels in this book is in the portrayal of his characters and their small-town attitudes and idiosyncrasies. (Epinions)
Bone Dry (2003) - Rehder writes with an engaging, down-home style that feels as though he is confiding secrets and gossip of his neighbours. (Epinions)
Flat Crazy (2004) - The off-beat characters that consistently make appearances in the Blanco County series are present again in Flat Crazy. (Epinions)
Guilt Trip (2005) - Rehder has jumped to a new level, and Guilt Trip just might grab a chunk of the outsize Hiaasen crowd (Booklist)
Gun Shy (2007) - The result is a funny, occasionally coarse read, that works on every level (Blogger News)
Holy Moly (2008) - I like his books a lot. They're hilarious, well written, and well plotted. This one's no exception. (Bill Crider)
